Pride in Sport: Thursday March 26 2026

Media Pride and Pride in Sport, are thrilled to invite you to our first flagship event of 2026: Pride in Sport.

Following the energy of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, this evening will bring together industry leaders, athletes, and media professionals to explore the vital intersection of queer identity, professional sports, and the power of broadcasting.

  • Time: 6:00 PM (Networking drinks followed by panel)
     

Media Pride is a volunteer-run community, and this event is made possible through the generous support of our industry partners. Mitch Brown

He / Him

Mitch is a former professional AFL footballer who played 94 games for the West Coast Eagles, where he was known for his versatility and defensive reliability over a decade-long career. In August 2025, he made history by becoming the first male AFL player to publicly identify as bisexual, a landmark moment for the AFL. Since retiring from the field, Mitch has transitioned into a prominent leadership role as an advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion. He now works closely with sporting bodies to  foster safer, more welcoming environments for queer athletes in elite and grassroots sports alike.

Ellie Cole

She / Her

Ellie is a legendary Australian Paralympic swimmer and wheelchair basketballer who holds the title of the nation’s most decorated female Paralympian. After losing her leg to cancer, Cole transformed her rehabilitation into an extraordinary career, amassing seventeen Paralympic medals across four Games. A resilient advocate for disability inclusion, she is a leading voice in the "WeThe15" movement, championing equal representation and authentic visibility for athletes with disabilities.

Ellia Green OAM

He / They

Ellia is a trailblazing Australian rugby union player and Olympic gold medallist who came out as a trans man in 2022. As the first-registered Australian Olympic athlete to transition, Green is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion, often speaking on the importance of living authentically and challenging discriminatory sporting policies.

Moderator: Dominic Clarke

He/Him

As a Tokyo 2021 Olympian and a founding member of the Gymnastics NSW Inclusion Committee, Dominic has been at the forefront of promoting inclusivity in sports. His dedication to creating safe and welcoming environments extends through his volunteer advocacy work with the AIS Thrive with Pride initiative and Community Development role with Pride in Sport, where he continues to drive change and foster a culture of acceptance in the sporting community.

Join us for our quarterly Media Pride mixers: a dedicated space for LGBTQIA+ professionals and allies to step away from the deadlines and connect. Whether you’re looking to share industry insights, find your next collaborator, or simply swap stories with peers who get it, these sessions are about building a stronger, more connected media landscape together.
