We're heading to NSW Parliament House for our next quarterly event, a first for Media Pride.
We'll be talking politics: we'll be digging into where LGBTQIA+ law in Australia stands today, and hearing from queer people who've worked in and around politics about what it's really like navigating that world. Expect a frank conversation about progress, setbacks, and what's still to fight for.

Our second event of 2026 traced the evolution of queer media from the fight for visibility to the platforms shaping the conversation today, hosted at FTI Consulting's Sydney office. First Mardi Gras 78ers Committee Co-Chair Robyn Kennedy opened the evening with a reflection on 1978, before Duncan Campbell moderated a panel with Gay Sydney Daily founder Eliot Hastie and SBS Queer Renegades host Farz Edraki. Together they charted queer media's journey through the marriage equality plebiscite and into today's independent outlets, closing with a lively Q&A on where the industry goes from here.

Our first event of 2026 brought together the worlds of elite athletics and media at Holding Redlich’s spectacular Sydney space. In collaboration with Pride in Sport, the evening featured a powerhouse panel of athletes including Ellie Cole, Mitch Brown, Ellia Green, and Dominic Clarke. These industry leaders shared their lived experiences of resilience and advocacy, providing a deep dive into the intersection of queer identity, professional sports, and the role media plays in shaping the narrative of inclusive athleticism.
Media Pride x Pride in Sport

At the elegant Angel Place offices of Maddocks, Media Pride held a special screening of the Foxtel Original documentary celebrating the legendary Brian Walsh. The film paid tribute to one of Australia’s most influential media executives, known for his creative genius behind hits like Neighbours, Wentworth, and the iconic 'Simply the Best' NRL campaign. The night served as a heartfelt tribute to a storyteller who shaped generations of Australian television, supported by the ongoing partnership of Pride in Diversity and Maddocks.

In celebration of World Pride Month, Media Pride gathered at Paramount’s Pyrmont studios to pull back the curtain on the reality TV experience. Moderated by Gogglebox Australia’s Tim Lai, the panel featured a lineup of fan-favorites including Johnnie Cass (Big Brother), Kirby Bentley (Australian Survivor and AFLW), Brooke Blurton (The Bachelorette), and Myles Kuah (Australian Survivor). The discussion offered a raw and thought-provoking look at the challenges and triumphs of navigating fame as a queer person in the public eye.
The Reality of Being an LGBTQIA+ Contestant

Media Pride’s 2025 Mardi Gras celebration was a night of high energy and forward-thinking discussion at Seven’s Eveleigh headquarters. 7NEWS’s Blake Johnson led an insightful panel on the future of diversity and inclusion in the Australian media and the impact of global social shifts on our local community. Joining the conversation were Chloe Molloy (AFLW Sydney Swans Captain), Nicholas Verso the Director of the Stan Original series Invisible Boys, and Australian Idol 2024 winner Royston Sagigi-Baira, who also captivated the audience with a special live performance.
2025 Mardi Gras Celebration

The inaugural Media Pride event kicked off at Nine’s 1 Denison headquarters in North Sydney, sparking a vital conversation on the industry's evolution. Moderated by 9News Reporter and Chief Political Editor Charles Croucher, the panel explored the current landscape of LGBTQIA+ representation. Featured speakers included Bevan Shields (Editor, The Sydney Morning Herald), Mon Schafter (Walkley Award-winning journalist and founding editor of ABCQueer), and Catherine Wheeler (Head of SBS Sport). The evening was made possible through the generous support of Pride in Diversity and the Pride Business Association.
